1983 Philosopher's Guide to the A.T.

Below are links to images of each page of the 1983 Philosopher's Guide to the AT carried by Gonzo! on his 1983 AT thruhike. This was the state of the art information guide for the time. There is a beginning section providing preparatory advice and later giving the most current trail and town information that did not show up in the official AT guides provided by the ATC. There is a short history at the beginning relating how the idea for the guide came into being and makes reference to its forerunner, "The Bootleg Guide to the AT." There was also a guide produced similar to the bootleg guide during the first few years of the '80s known as the "Beer Drinker & Ice Cream eaters Guide to the AT."
